چکیده

Gallavotti proposed an equivalence principle in hydrodynamics, which states that forced-damped fluids can be equally well represented by means of the Navier-Stokes equations and by means of time reversible dynamical systems called GNS. In the GNS systems, the usual viscosity is replaced by a state-dependent dissipation term which fixes one global quantity. The principle states that the mean values of properly chosen observables are the same for both representations of the fluid. In the same paper, the chaotic hypothesis of Gallavotti and Cohen is applied to hydrodynamics, leading to the conjecture that entropy fluctuations in the GNS system verify a relation first observed in nonequilibrium molecular dynamics. We tested these ideas in the case of twodimensional fluids. We examined the fluctuations of global quadratic quantities in the statistically stationary state of a) the Navier-Stokes equations; b) the GNS equations. Our results are consistent with the validity of the fluctuation relation, and of the equivalence principle, indicating possible extensions thereof. Moreover, in these results the difference between the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation theorem and the Evans-Searles identity is evident. Ordinary and Viscosity-damped Mhd Turbulence

We compare the properties of ordinary strong magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in a strongly magnetized medium with the recently discovered viscosity-damped regime. We focus on energy spectra, anisotropy, and intermittency. Our most surprising conclusion is that in ordinary strong MHD turbulence the velocity and magnetic fields show different high-order structure function scalings. Moreover ...

On Turbulent Reconnection

We examine the dynamics of turbulent reconnection in 2D and 3D reduced MHD by calculating the effective dissipation due to coupling between small–scale fluctuations and large–scale magnetic fields. Sweet–Parker type balance relations are then used to calculate the global reconnection rate. Two approaches are employed — quasi–linear closure and an eddy-damped fluid model. Results indicate that d...

Analysis of the Characteristics, Physical Concepts and Entropy Generation in a Turbulent Channel Flow Using Vortex Blob Method

In this paper, using vortex blob method (VBM), turbulent flow in a channel is studied and physical concepts of turbulence are obtained and discussed. At first, time-averaged velocities,  and , and then their fluctuations are calculated. To clarify turbulence structures, velocity fluctuations and  are plotted. It is observed that turbulence structures occupy different positions and move with con...

SINS of Viscosity Damped Turbulence

The problems with explaining the Small Ionized and Neutral Structures (SINS) appealing to turbulence stem from inefficiency of the Kol-mogorov cascade in creating large fluctuations at sufficiently small scales. However , other types of cascades are possible. When magnetic turbulence in a fluid with viscosity that is much larger than resistivity gets to a viscous damping scale, the turbulence d...

Nonlinear Self-Sustained Drift-Wave Turbulence.

Numerical simulations of 3D collisional drift-wave turbulence in a sheared magnetic field are presented which demonstrate that fluctuations are self-sustaining even though the linear eigenmodes of the system are all damped. An analytic calculation reveals that the source of the turbulence is a nonlinear streaming instability in which radial flows extract energy from the ambient density gradient...
